The .SE country-specific top-level extension was established in 1986 and given to Sweden. During the first years after its introduction, the registration procedure was quite restrictive, so a very limited number of domains were obtained. Individuals were allowed to register no more than one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was required, i.e. only Swedish persons, companies and organizations were able to order a .SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was loosened significantly and, consequently, the number of .SE domains has been mounting each year.
